D-Day

In 2009 CWA will be ready. Will you be ready in 2009?

Given the attitude of AT&T today, a strike in August, 2009 appears to be imminent. We may even be facing a lock out, as AT&T moves forward with plans to cut wages and benefits significantly. We are concerned enough that we are already beginning preparations for that eventuality. You need to be making preparations as well.

CWA and Alabama TELCO have put together SIGN-UP PACKAGES for our members so you can start saving now. These SIGN-UP PACKAGES can be picked up at any TELCO location. We will also have these for you at our membership meeting on Tuesday night (10/16). If you choose to save in another way, that is fine. But it is imperative you start now.

Most financial planners suggest you have 2 months wages set aside but we realize this may be too much for you to put aside each week. We have come up with some amounts to go by, but you should do what is best for you and your family. Our main goal is to help you get prepared for 2009. A successful strike or lockout could last 2 months. You need to be prepared to pay two to three months bills without a paycheck.

Beginning as soon as possible, assuming you only have standard tax deductions and if you are:

  • AT&T Legacy T - Making $854.00 per week-you need to save $58.77 per week

AT&T Legacy B

  • WS 1B making $640.00 per week-you need to save $44.04 per week
  • WS 10 making $773.50 per week-you need to save $53.23 per week
  • WS 16 making $858.50 per week-you need to save $59.08 per week
  • WS 18 making $862.50 per week-you need to save $59.35 per week
  • WS 20 making $882.50 per week-you need to save $60.73 per week
  • WS 23 making $911.00 per week-you need to save $62.69 per week
  • WS 27 making $954.00 per week-you need to save $65.65 per week
  • WS 30 making $1053.50 per week-you need to save $72.50 per week
  • WS 32 making $1099.00 per week-you need to save $75.63 per week
  • WS 36 making $1257.50 per week-you need to save $86.54 per week

If these numbers don't fit your situation, try adding up your monthly bills to determine how much you need. (2-3 months) We have 93 weeks left, so you can easily determine what you have to save to be ready.

YOU are the Union and it will take all of us working together to get a fair contract. Start preparing now! The month before the contract ends is too late!!
