Letter from our President, Gene Redd
6-29-2009
To my Union family,
I want to thank each and every one of you for the hard work and dedication you put forth every day. Your individual efforts have produced record profits for the at&t corporation.
I would also like to thank the members who have contacted me with their praises and those with concerns. We are a communications organization, so if we do not communicate positives and negatives, we can't move forward toward our goal of complete unity. I want to continue to challenge each of you to contact the officers of this local with your concerns, so that we can try to address every need for every member.
Contract negotiations are getting very near. We have just elected a new District 3 Vice President, Judy Dennis, and have the full faith that she will lead us in the best possible manner. My understanding is that we will not be changing the people doing negotiations when it resumes on July 19. Our district has put some of the best people forward to try to gain a fair contract for each of you. I have had multiple concerns about bargaining updates. We have been advised to let the updates come from the district office. Any of you can contact me at anytime and I will tell you what I know. At this point there are not any changes since we are not currently in bargaining. When bargaining resumes all members can access www.mycwainfo.org and the daily updates will be posted on the link to the District 3 web site.
I urge each of you to continue to save for a possible work stoppage. Even though none of us want this, we still need to try to be as best prepared as possible. In the near future, we will be posting a strike certification form on the web site. Every member needs to print out one of these forms and return it to the local. This form is vital to getting your address correct at the local and to get your pay for strike duty. Our July Meeting has been moved to Ryan's at the end of Bobby Jones Expressway because the Yellow Pages are using our hall to send out phone books. This is our last meeting before the contract expiration occurs and is very important for as many people to attend as possible. The meeting will begin in the back room at 07:30 P.M. on July 7th. This time is to ensure ample travel time for everyone, even those working late at the consumer office.
We are still working without a contract in the relay office and are still watching the slow bargaining process there. There is some good news in that Avaya has reached a tentative agreement. We hope that all of us mobilizing and coming together as one family will produce a great contract for the other departments. Bargaining will not be over when we get this agreement. Our mobility stores contract expires on March 2010. Please take the time when you are in these stores to make sure that you are doing your business with a member and try to explain to them the importance of the Union (good pay, benefits, & representation). These employees are new to us and need a warm welcome and encouragement.
Thank you all again for your hard work. Network employees please try to keep yourselves safe and cool during the hot summer months. We understand what you are going through and want all of you to return home safely to your families at night. Again if you have any concerns or needs, we are just a phone call away.
In Unity,
Gene Redd
